The American Board of Sports and Performance Psychiatry (ABSPP) is dedicated to advancing the field and maintaining the highest standards for certification, education, and professional practice.
Mission: Our mission is to empower and credential sports and performance psychiatrists who demonstrate excellence in the comprehensive care of athletes and performers, fostering mental well-being and optimal performance. Through the certification of board-certified sports and performance psychiatrists, we aim to enhance the mental health and well-being of athletes, performers, executives, and individuals striving for peak performance in their personal and professional lives.
Mark Allen, MD
Chairman of the Board of DirectorsDr. Allen is a psychiatrist specializing in child, adolescent, and adult care, with a dedicated interest in assisting athletes of all ages. He is a member of the International Society for Sports Psychiatry and completed its official sports certification program.
Brook Choulet, MD
PresidentBrook Choulet, M.D. is a board-certified concierge psychiatrist who works with children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Choulet specializes in performance psychiatry, helping busy professionals, high-achievers, and athletes at all levels optimize their mental health and enhance their performance. She received additional education in sports psychiatry through the International Society for Sports Psychiatry and completed a fellowship in child & adolescent psychiatry.
Thomas Horn, DO
Vice PresidentDr. Horn’s involvement with sports goes back to his undergraduate days at Notre Dame, when he worked as a student manager for the football and tennis programs. Now in his third season with the Cardinals organization as a member of the Mercy medical team, he’s passionate about helping patients, especially young adults and athletes, achieve peak performance on and off the field. He enjoys working in collaboration with psychologists and mental strength coaches to promote wellness and preventive care.
Rolando Gonzalez, MD
Chief Information OfficerRolando Gonzalez, MD is a licensed psychiatrist passionate about optimizing mental well-being and performance by managing mental illnesses and day-to-day challenges. Dr. Gonzalez is board certified in General and Child/Adolescent Psychiatry.
Tia Konzer, DO
TreasurerDr Konzer is the owner and sole physician at her private practice, Konzer Psychiatric, in Davidson, NC. She is dually Board Certified in Psychiatry and Child/Adolescent Psychiatry through both the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons.
Ankur Desai, MD
COODr. Desai completed his undergraduate and his medical doctorate degrees from Tufts University. For postgraduate medical training, he completed a General Adult Psychiatry residency at University of Maryland/ Sheppard Pratt and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Amanda Klass, DO
SecretaryAmanda Klass, DO is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She earned her medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and completed her residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
